Proposed CARB off road diesel regulations will likely rely heavily on
the availability of Verified Diesel Emission Control Systems (VDECS)
devices. These are typically after-market retrofit components that
remove PM (carbon particulate matter) including Diesel Oxidation
Catalysts (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF).CARB’s definition:“Diesel emission control system” means any device, system, or strategy employed with an in-use diesel vehicle or piece of equipment that is intended to reduce emissions. Examples of diesel emission control strategies include, but are not limited to, particulate filters, diesel oxidation catalysts, selective catalytic reduction systems, fuel additives used in combination with particulate filters, alternative diesel fuels, and combinations of the above.BEWARE – these devices must be “verified” by the California Air Resources Board. There are currently very few “verified” devices available and most are restricted to a limited number of models. Do not invest in just any device that a sales person offers. The technology is evolving and the marketplace just opening up in the US. We have a Category 5 challenge bearing down on the construction industry. It can make obsolete 90% of the equipment in use today. The biggest asset most construction companies have is their equipment, and much of that is about to become worthless.
